The paper presents a method for the numerical solution of the problem of a hydraulic fracture of a rock mass by a planar crack of arbitrary shape. The crack is filled with a viscous incompressible fluid. The method is based on the use of the boundary element method for solving the elasticity problem and the finite difference method for solving the lubrication equation. The proposed method allows to take into account the influence of the fluid viscosity, the rock mass elasticity, and the crack shape on the hydraulic fracture development. The method is verified by comparing the results with known analytical solutions for simple crack shapes. The method is applied to study the hydraulic fracture development for a crack of complex shape.
