Abstract
The research investigates the influence of financial clusters on startup acquisitions and mergers within Thailand. Financial clusters, characterized by a high concentration of financial institutions, venture capitalists, and supporting services, are hypothesized to foster an environment conducive to increased merger and acquisition (M&A) activities for startups. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of M&A deal data from 2010-2023 with qualitative interviews with key stakeholders in the Thai startup ecosystem. Preliminary findings suggest a positive correlation between the proximity to established financial clusters in Bangkok and the propensity for startups to be acquired or merge. Furthermore, qualitative insights highlight the role of networking opportunities, access to funding, and expert mentorship within these clusters as critical drivers. The study contributes to understanding regional innovation ecosystems and offers policy implications for fostering startup growth and M&A activities in emerging economies.
