About this journal
Aims Earth System Dynamics and Climate Risk (ESDCR) is a leading-edge, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the rigorous investigation of the Earth’s integrated systems and the cascading risks posed by their instability. As the global community faces unprecedented environmental shifts, the need for a unified scientific platform that combines high-fidelity atmospheric physics with robust risk quantification has never been more urgent. ESDCR aims to facilitate this integration by publishing high-impact research that utilizes advanced computational modeling to decode the complexities of climate feedbacks and translate these findings into actionable intelligence for global security and economic planning. Our mission is to promote transparency in climate science and to foster a collaborative environment where geophysicists, computational scientists, and risk analysts can converge to solve the most pressing challenges of the Anthropocene.Scope The scope of ESDCR encompasses a broad range of themes centered on the physical processes of the Earth system and their socio-economic repercussions. We specifically encourage submissions that present novel methodologies in data assimilation, non-linear dynamics, and predictive analytics. Key areas of interest include: • High-resolution simulation of coupled ocean-atmosphere interactions. • Thermodynamic modeling of polar ice sheet degradation and global hydrology. • Statistical downscaling techniques for regional climate impact assessments. • Analysis of tipping points in Earth system components and their sudden-onset risks. • Development of integrated assessment models (IAMs) that incorporate geopolitical stressors. • Machine learning applications in identifying emergent patterns in climate datasets. • Quantifying the economic cost of climate-induced biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse. • Simulation of stratospheric aerosol injection and other geoengineering interventions. • Mapping the nexus between water-energy-food security and environmental volatility. Article Types ESDCR accepts several submission formats to accommodate the varied needs of our contributors: • Original Research: Substantial contributions presenting novel data or theoretical developments. • Review Articles: Synthesis of existing literature on specific sub-fields or emerging methodologies. • Technical Notes: Brief reports on new software tools, algorithms, or instrumentation. • Policy Briefs: Analyses of how climate dynamics influence specific regulatory or security frameworks. • Data Descriptors: Peer-reviewed accounts of significant new datasets for the climate community. Audience The journal is designed for an international audience of researchers, academics, and practitioners. This includes climate scientists and atmospheric physicists seeking to publish foundational work, as well as risk managers, geopolitical analysts, and urban planners who rely on the latest Earth system data to inform strategy and resilience building. ESDCR serves as a critical resource for those working at the intersection of natural science and global risk governance.
