About this journal
Aims Frontiers in Sensing Technologies for the Digital Environment (FSTDE) is dedicated to being a premier international platform for cutting-edge research at the intersection of advanced sensing technologies and environmental science. Our primary aim is to foster a deeper understanding of the complex interactions within both natural and built environments through innovative sensing solutions. We seek to accelerate the development, deployment, and analytical application of novel sensors to address critical environmental challenges, from climate change and pollution to biodiversity loss and sustainable resource management. FTDE promotes interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration, bridging the gap between technological breakthroughs and their impactful application in creating a more monitored, managed, and resilient digital environment for all. Scope FTDE welcomes original research, reviews, and perspective articles that explore the theoretical foundations, technological advancements, and practical applications of sensing technologies across diverse environmental domains. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: • Development of novel sensor materials, designs, and fabrication techniques for environmental monitoring. • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Internet of Things (IoT), and cyber-physical systems for ubiquitous environmental data collection. • Remote sensing, satellite imagery, and drone-based platforms for large-scale environmental assessment and mapping. • Advanced data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for interpreting complex sensor data in ecological and climate models. • Sensors for air, water, and soil quality monitoring, pollution detection, and source identification. • Biodiversity monitoring, ecological tracking, and habitat assessment using smart sensing systems. • Applications of sensing technologies in smart cities, sustainable agriculture, and resilient infrastructure. • Wearable and mobile environmental sensing for personal exposure assessment and public health. • Geospatial information systems (GIS) integrated with sensor data for environmental decision-making. • Early warning systems for natural disasters, environmental hazards, and climate change impacts. Article Types FTDE accepts a variety of article types to disseminate research and insights effectively: • Research Articles: Original, full-length reports of empirical or theoretical research. • Review Articles: Comprehensive syntheses of current literature on a specific topic, identifying gaps and future directions. • Short Communications: Brief reports of significant new findings or methodological advances. • Methodology Articles: Detailed descriptions of novel techniques, protocols, or experimental setups. • Perspectives/Opinion Pieces: Scholarly commentaries on emerging trends, controversial topics, or policy implications. • Data Reports: Descriptions of valuable datasets collected using sensing technologies, accompanied by metadata and methods. Audience The primary audience for FTDE includes environmental scientists, engineers, data scientists, computer scientists, ecologists, geographers, urban planners, and policymakers. We also aim to engage researchers and practitioners in fields such as materials science, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, who are interested in applying their expertise to environmental challenges. Our content is designed for anyone seeking to understand, develop, or implement advanced sensing solutions for a sustainable digital environment.
