About this journal
Aims Frontiers in Veterinary Epidemiology and Global Disease Surveillance (FVEGDS) aims to advance the scientific understanding of disease patterns, determinants, and dynamics in animal populations. The journal provides a rigorous peer-reviewed platform for innovative research that improves the design, implementation, and evaluation of surveillance systems, disease control strategies, and outbreak investigations. By fostering a One Health perspective, FVEGDS bridges veterinary epidemiology with public health, ecology, and data science to address emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and other global health threats. The ultimate goal is to generate evidence that supports evidence-based policies, enhances biosecurity, and reduces the impact of animal diseases on food security, economies, and human well-being. Scope • Epidemiological studies of infectious and non-infectious diseases in domestic, wild, and aquatic animals • Disease modeling, simulation, and forecasting (e.g., compartmental, spatial, network, or agent-based models) • Design, evaluation, and optimization of surveillance systems for early detection and monitoring • Outbreak investigations, including source tracing, transmission dynamics, and intervention effectiveness • Zoonotic disease epidemiology and the human-animal interface • Antimicrobial use and resistance surveillance in animal populations • Risk assessment and management of animal health threats (including trade and climate change impacts) • Spatial epidemiology, geographic information systems (GIS), and remote sensing applications • One Health approaches: cross-sectoral collaboration, integrated surveillance, and comparative epidemiology • Economic analyses of animal health interventions and surveillance programs Article Types • Original Research Articles • Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses • Short Communications • Case Reports and Series • Methodological Papers (new tools, models, or frameworks) • Perspective and Opinion Pieces • Data Descriptors (with open data) Audience The journal serves a diverse international audience including veterinary epidemiologists, public health officials, disease ecologists, policy-makers, veterinary clinicians, animal health economists, and researchers in fields such as microbiology, ecology, data science, and One Health. It also appeals to postgraduate students and professionals in government agencies, international organizations, and the livestock and aquaculture industries.
