About this journal
Aims IJESM aims to advance the understanding of the interplay between engineering systems, management practices, and organizational decision making. It seeks to publish rigorous research that informs theory and practice across disciplines such as systems engineering, operations research, project and program management, technology management, and strategic decision making. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, the journal supports innovative approaches to designing, modelling, evaluating, and managing complex engineering systems within socio-technical contexts. It emphasizes methodological robustness, impact on industry and policy, and clarity of presentation for practitioners and scholars alike. Scope The journal covers theoretical and applied research at the intersection of engineering and management. It welcomes conceptual work, empirical studies, and case analyses that contribute to the effective design, analysis, operation, governance, and renewal of engineering systems in sectors ranging from manufacturing and infrastructure to energy, transportation, and information technology. Submissions that integrate technical modelling with decision making, risk assessment, sustainability, and economics are encouraged. The journal seeks to advance knowledge on system architecture, lifecycle management, supply chain integration, product and process innovation, and human–system interaction. Topics include but are not limited to the following: • Systems engineering methods and lifecycle management • Operations research and decision support for engineering projects • Technology and innovation management in engineering contexts • Risk, reliability, resilience, and sustainability of complex systems • Data analytics, modelling, and simulation for engineering decision making • Performance measurement, metrics, and benchmarking of engineering systems • Supply chain, manufacturing, and service system integration • Policy, governance, and economic analysis of engineering initiatives • Human factors, organizational design, and collaboration across disciplines • Smart systems, digital twins, IoT, and cyber-physical systems in engineering management Article Types • Original research articles • Review articles and systematic reviews • Short communications and rapid communications • Case studies and industry practice articles • Methodology notes and technical notes • Conceptual papers with empirical grounding Audience The journal serves researchers, engineers, project managers, operations managers, policy makers, and industry practitioners who design, analyze, operate, and govern complex engineering systems. It targets readers seeking rigorous methodologies, interdisciplinary insights, and practical guidance for managing engineering value, sustainability, and risk in dynamic environments.
