About this journal

Aims The Journal of Seismology and Tectonic Evolution (JSTE) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access publication dedicated to advancing the scientific understanding of the Earth's dynamic crust and upper mantle. The primary aim of JSTE is to provide a multidisciplinary platform where geophysicists, structural geologists, and geodynamicists can share high-resolution data and innovative theoretical frameworks. The journal emphasizes the integration of multi-scale observations—from microscopic mineral physics to continental-scale plate movements—to elucidate the complex mechanisms governing seismic activity and the long-term evolution of tectonic systems. By fostering a rigorous dialogue between observational seismology and physical modeling, JSTE aims to accelerate breakthroughs in our ability to characterize seismic hazards and the mechanical behavior of the lithosphere.Scope The journal invites original research contributions that address the fundamental processes of the Earth’s interior and their surface expressions. The scope includes, but is not limited to, the following areas: • Earthquake Source Physics: Studies on the initiation, propagation, and termination of seismic ruptures. • Lithospheric Rheology: Investigations into the flow laws and deformation mechanisms of crustal and mantle materials. • Active Tectonics and Paleoseismology: Reconstruction of past seismic events through geological, geomorphological, and trenching techniques. • Structural Geology and Fault Mechanics: Analysis of fault zone architecture, damage zones, and the evolution of complex fault networks. • Geodesy and Crustal Deformation: Utilizing InSAR, GNSS, and satellite gravimetry to monitor strain accumulation and transient deformation. • Induced Seismicity: Exploring the relationship between fluid injection, mining, and anthropogenic seismic events. • Subduction Zone Dynamics: Modeling the mechanical and thermal evolution of convergent margins and megathrust zones. • Computational Seismology: Development of numerical methods for seismic wave propagation and structural imaging. Article Types JSTE accepts the following manuscript formats: • Original Research Articles: Significant new empirical or theoretical contributions. • Review Articles: Comprehensive syntheses of existing literature in specialized sub-disciplines. • Technical Notes: Descriptions of novel instrumentation, software, or experimental methodologies. • Short Communications: Brief reports on high-impact findings or urgent preliminary data. • Data Papers: Detailed descriptions of high-value geophysical or geological datasets. Audience The journal is designed for a global audience of academic researchers, including seismologists, geologists, and geophysicists. Additionally, it serves as a critical resource for geotechnical engineers, disaster risk management professionals, and policy makers involved in seismic hazard mitigation and urban planning.
