About
Aims npj Implementation Science (NPJIS) aims to advance the science and practice of implementing evidence-based interventions across healthcare, public health, and social services. The journal seeks to publish rigorous, high-quality research that elucidates the methods, processes, and outcomes of implementation efforts, with the ultimate goal of reducing the research-to-practice gap. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and methodological innovation, NPJIS supports the global translation of evidence into routine use, ensuring that effective interventions reach those who need them most. The journal prioritizes studies that not only demonstrate effectiveness but also explore the contextual, organizational, and systemic factors that facilitate or hinder successful implementation. Through the dissemination of reproducible and impactful findings, NPJIS aims to guide policy, improve service delivery, and advance health equity in diverse settings. Scope The journal welcomes contributions on all aspects of implementation science, including but not limited to the following topical areas: • Development, testing, and refinement of implementation theories, models, and frameworks • Innovative methods and designs for studying implementation processes and outcomes (e.g., mixed methods, hybrid designs, pragmatic trials) • Strategies to enhance adoption, fidelity, adaptation, and sustainability of evidence-based interventions • Measurement and evaluation of implementation outcomes (e.g., acceptability, feasibility, penetration, cost) • Role of context—including organizational, cultural, political, and socio-economic factors—in shaping implementation • Equity-focused implementation research addressing disparities and promoting inclusive practices across populations • De-implementation of low-value, ineffective, or harmful practices • Implementation in low-resource, humanitarian, and global health settings • Scale-up, spread, and sustainment of evidence-based interventions across systems and sectors • Integration of digital health technologies, artificial intelligence, and data science in implementation efforts Article Types NPJIS publishes a variety of formats to accommodate the breadth of implementation science scholarship: • Original Research Articles • Systematic and Scoping Reviews • Methods and Study Design Articles • Study Protocols • Brief Reports and Short Communications • Commentaries and Perspectives • Case Studies • Tools and Resources Audience NPJIS serves a broad, interdisciplinary audience including implementation scientists, health services researchers, clinicians and healthcare leaders, public health practitioners and policymakers, social service administrators, and educators. The journal is also relevant for students, trainees, and knowledge users engaged in translating evidence into practice across health and social systems worldwide.
