The study evaluated the effect of product safety on the performance of food and beverage firms in Ebonyi State. The specific objectives were to; examine the effect of regulatory action on the product quality; and effect of monitoring action on the waste reduction of food and beverage firms in Ebonyi State. The study used the descriptive survey design approach. The primary source of data was the administration of questionnaire. The population of the study was six hundred and twenty three (623) employees. The sample size of two hundred and thirty seven (237) was adopted using Ferund and Williams’s formula. Two hundred and one (201) employees returned their questionnaire and accurately filled. That gave 85 percent response rate. Data was presented and analyzed by mean score (3.0 and above agreed while below 3.0 disagreed) and standard deviation using Sprint Likert Scale. The hypotheses were analyzed using Z- test statistic tool. The findings revealed that Regulatory action had significant positive effect on the product quality Z(95, n = 201), 5.220 < 6.701, P. < .05 and Monitoring action had significant positive effect on the waste reduction of food and beverage firms in Ebonyi State Z(95, n = 201), 5.978 < 7.671, P. < .05. The study concluded thatRegulatory action and monitoring action had significant positive effect on the product quality and waste reduction of food and beverage firms in Ebonyi State. The study recommended among others that the food and beverage management should ensure that there is effective regulatory policy to guide and make sure they play by the same rules and protect citizens. | ABSTRACT |
